Standards for Conditions

Imperfections have different impacts on the evaluation of card conditions. Additionally, each condition allows for different frequencies of imperfections, depending on the type of imperfection and the card's condition.

Understanding Imperfections

Imperfections have different impacts on the evaluation of card conditions. For instance, some types of wear are common across all conditions, while others can only occur within specific condition grades.

Example: Edgewear is common across all conditions, while Faults can only occur within Moderately Played, Heavily Played or Damaged cards.

Points System for Severity

Each condition allows for a certain amount of points of imperfections. We use the following scale to determine the aggregate impact of imperfections:

Near Mint

NM

A card with minimal handling or play wear.

Up to 3 points of imperfections are allowed

  • Slight Edgewear
  • Slight Scuffing
  • Slight Indentation
  • Minor Scratches
  • Slight Defect
Not Allowed

Surface Wear, Grime, Bend, Fault, Damage

Lightly Played

LP

Shows signs of handling or play, but does not display significant imperfections.

Up to 6 points of imperfections are allowed

  • Minor Edgewear
  • Minor Scratches
  • Minor Scuffing
  • Minor Indent
  • Minor Bend
  • Slight Surface Wear

Moderately Played

MP

Shows significant play, use or wear.

Up to 12 points of imperfections are allowed

  • Moderate Edgewear
  • Moderate Scratches
  • Moderate Scuffing
  • Moderate Indent
  • Minor Surface Wear
  • Minor Bends

Heavily Played

HP

Shows significant wear and imperfections.

Up to 24 points of imperfections are allowed

  • Major Grime

Damaged

DMG

Cards show wear or imperfections beyond the standards for other conditions.

Things to look for that make a card Damaged:

  • Foreign substances & non-manufacturing ink
  • Significant shifting/miscuts
  • Tears, punctures, splitting, folding
  • Missing/illegible card information
  • Missing/illegible authentication gems
  • Moderate/Major Faults (including liquid exposure)
